Cowboy Dressage is for Any Age: Betty Nagle – Still Learning, Loving and Living Horses at 80

Shortly after Betty’s 80th birthday, Marcia asked Betty if she would like to ride at the Cowboy Dressage World Gathering on Marcia’s 4 year old Quarter Horse gelding, Black Stretch Limo. “Marcia offered me her trained horse and so I did it,” Betty said, “I practiced the tests on Cowboy and also rode Stretch. They are very much alike in temperament. I really, really thank Marcia for letting me ride him. Not everyone would do that. And I know she wouldn’t put me on him if she didn’t know he was safe. I was elated after my first ride on Stretch. It felt so good. He helped me feel like I could get to the Cowboy Dressage World show. Now I’ve done Cowboy Dressage it’s so much fun! I have something new to teach Cowboy.” Betty and Stretch brought home a Reserve Champion 60 and over ribbon from the World show. Although she made it look easy, Betty said she is far from a natural horseman. She has an amazing work ethic, a can-do attitude and she always enjoys a challenge.

“Just have fun, give your best effort, show your team love, be safe, and have a good attitude,” chorused 30+ kids at each of the Jessi Club days held in 2014. They gather at the barn twice a year to experience this motto, as well as grooming, leading, and even riding a horse, all for free. Those that join the club get a free lesson and t-shirt and spend 10 lessons with Jessi learning about horsemanship.

What a Difference a Year Makes!

Every since we started designing our BB Trail Course, we had the idea of focusing on three dimensions of versatility: trail, patterns and ground. Well, last November, we found Cowboy Dressage and last February, we found the American Horse Woman’s Challenge. Both of these experiences have solidified our original idea. We love versatility! We want to do more versatility! And we believe versatility helps us be a better horseman, which helps us develop better horses. Beyond giving us a clear direction for our future, both of these events gave us a feeling that we strive to do and want to do better for you, our clients. When we went to Rancho Murrieta for our first Cowboy Dressage World Show, we felt as though we had come home. The guiding principles and mission of CD is so equally yoked with our (MM Training’s) mission and guiding principles. Plus the people were so welcoming and friendly. It was a great learning and growing atmosphere.
